State of protection against polio in children, who receive immunosuppressive therapy

Abstract

Objective: to examine the state of protection from polio in a previously vaccinated patients receiving immunosuppressive therapy.
Materials and methods. The object of the study were children with rheumatic and nephrological diseases, receiving immunosuppressive therapy. Laboratory evaluation of immune protection against polio was carried out in two groups: the main was 24 children, who were on immunosuppressive therapy, control — 25 healthy vaccinated children.
Results. Significant difference between the average level of antibodies to the polio of the main group and control group not identified (p=0.589). Protected against polio were 70.8%, who receive immunosuppressive therapy compared to 60% of the children in the control group.
Conclusions. The data obtained on post-vaccination immunity against polio in a previously vaccinated children in Ukraine on the background of immunosuppressive therapy indicate its adequate level in a timely vaccination.
The research was carried out in accordance with the principles of the Helsinki Declaration. The study protocol was approved by the Local Ethics Committee of an participating institution. The informed consent of the patient was obtained for conducting the studies.
